Thank you to Earl Englehart, Bill & Bev Turner, Tom Dolan and all the golfers and sponsors who made this day so successful.
The tournament sponsored by the Spring Ridge Golf League on September 30, 2011 was another very successful day. Standing out as a day of sunshine between weeks of rain, everyone was in high spirits!
Thanks for Helping Us Meet Our Goals
We had several goals for the fundraiser this year. The first was to honor the memory of Jessica Murphy, a 14-year old student-athlete who died in a car crash. The second was to raise awareness of safe driving practices for teens. The third goal was to support pediatric medical treatment and research. The fourth goal was to encourage appreciation for things we tend to take for granted: the love of family and friends. And, the final goal was to replenish the funds in the Jessica Murphy Scholarship, so we can continue to offer scholarships in Jessie’s memory.
Who Gets the Scholarships
On June 23, 2011, two $2,000 scholarships were given to Frederick County student-athletes through the Jessica Murphy Memorial Scholarship Fund. The two students, Alex Parker from Thomas Johnson High School and Haley Rogers from Brunswick High School, had excellent academic and community service histories as well as clean driving records. Alex and Haley are attending Stevenson University and Hood College, respectively, and both are playing volleyball. Two additional scholarships will be awarded in June 2012.
You helped us raise over $8,600! Of that total, $7,180 has been deposited in the Jessica Murphy Memorial Scholarship Fund held with The Community Foundation of Frederick County and over $1,400 has been sent to St. Jude’s Hospital.
Below are the sponsors of this year's tournament. These companies understand the true meaning of community, and literally put their money where there mouth is by showing us such unconditional support. They are listed in order by the type of business they operate.
Please review the list, and when you are in the need of something they have to offer, please consider using their services:
